Keyboard Layout Converter

Typed a whole sentence and then noticed your keyboard was set to the wrong language? Paste the text here and get what you meant to type. Works between English, Arabic, French, Spanish and German layouts.

Try an example:

Why does my text come out as gibberish?

Every physical key on your keyboard carries a different character in each language. Your computer does not know which one you mean. It types the character of whatever input language is active at that moment. So if the system is set to Arabic and you type "hello", you get "اثممخ", because those are the Arabic letters on the same five keys.

The wrong text is therefore not random. Each character tells exactly which key you pressed, and this tool uses that to give you back the text you meant, without retyping it.

How to use the converter

  1. Paste the wrong text into the first box.
  2. Pick the layout your keyboard was set to, and the language you meant to type in. Between Arabic and English the direction is detected automatically.
  3. The fixed text appears instantly in the second box. The button swaps the direction.
  4. Click Copy result and paste it where you need it.

How to switch keyboard language quickly

  • Windows: Alt + Shift or Win + Space
  • Mac: Ctrl + Space or the Globe key 🌐, depending on your settings
  • Phone: tap the globe icon on the on-screen keyboard, or swipe on the space bar on some devices

Frequently asked questions

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Which layouts are supported?

English (QWERTY), Arabic (standard 101 layout), French (AZERTY), Spanish and German (QWERTZ), in any direction between them.

Does it handle Caps Lock and Shift characters?

Yes. Shifted characters are mapped to the shifted character on the same key, and Arabic text typed with Caps Lock on is corrected too. Accented letters that need two key presses, such as á on a Spanish keyboard, are left as they are.

How do I stop this from happening?

Glance at the language indicator before you start, and look up at the screen after the first word. The best fix is touch typing: when your eyes stay on the screen, you notice a wrong layout at the first letter. Try our free typing speed test and learn how to type without looking.
